It's a a small town city with about 19,588 people. You can expect to pay around $1,673 for rent here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Am I overthinking this? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 2 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for family and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The school system is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Portland about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Highland for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- The food scene scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Limited entertainment options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

I work in construction here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is challenging. Definitely worth checking out..
