Not sure if this has been asked before, but We're a young couple and It's a a small town city with about 19,588 people. Average temperature is around 63--F, so the weather is moderate. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Thanks in advance! It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great Southern places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (The Heights) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much affordable but now it's underrated.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from San Francisco about 7 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The cost of living is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..
