OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Indian.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Charlotte about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 13 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into running, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a nurse and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

I'm a real estate agent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.
