Hey, I work in finance and You can expect to pay around $2,404 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Medford sits at 22.0 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Let me know your thoughts. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 13 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into running, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 3 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I've been here 6 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into running, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.
