Is public transit usable in Medford?

Hey, I'm a college student here and The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $387,000 on average. With a population of 85,794, Medford is a smaller city. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I overthinking this? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much reasonable but now it's hit or miss.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 31, moved here 2 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Uptown and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The cultural scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in education. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Southern.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Eastside for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- The community vibe scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The healthcare is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
