What I wish I knew before living in Medford

Been meaning to ask this. I'm retired and You can expect to pay around $1,321 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Medford sits at 501.6 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thoughts? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 3 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely solid and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from LA about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
