Hi all, Been living here since 2005. Poverty rate is 47.6%, which is higher than I expected. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Thoughts? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The safety scene is surprisingly good
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Tampa about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 11 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
