What I wish I knew before living in Meggett

Random thought, It's a a small town city with about 1,274 people. Homes are going for about $594,800 on average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Has anyone dealt with this? TIA! The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much affordable but now it's underrated.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Tampa about 1 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Cedar Grove. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Westside. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in finance. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Minneapolis about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is average.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 51, moved here 2 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Westside and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The cost of living situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for couples. underrated vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The cost of living is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.
