I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The cultural scene is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great craft beer places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Baltimore about 11 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I work in construction here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for weather and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The dating scene is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 32, moved here 13 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Midtown and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The walkability situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for families. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
