Is Melbourne walkable?

Hey everyone, Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. Household incomes average around $64,504 in Melbourne. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $272,900 on average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What do you all think? Cheers. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 15 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The school system is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Dallas about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, No regrets on my end..
