Hello, I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Melbourne sits at 692.0 per 100K. Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I've lived in Midtown for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The outdoor recreation scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Portland about 4 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..
