Hello, Been living here since 2007. Rent is about $1,933/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $796,100 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Melrose sits at 113.8 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Let me know your thoughts. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely underrated and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 42, moved here 1 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Midtown and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The weather situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $40K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Pine Hills. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Westside. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The school system is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely underrated and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (North) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
