Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm single, late 20s, and Rent is about $3,501/month for a decent place. Median household income is $155,675, which feels pretty solid for the area. You can expect to pay around $3,501 for rent here. Homes are going for about $778,400 on average. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Anyone in a similar situation?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Portland about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 7 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Oak Park area are solid. Kids love it here.
