Hey everyone, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Melvindale sits at 457.9 per 100K. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Atlanta about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
