Pros and cons of Melvindale after 14 years

Hi all, I grew up here but left for a while. Homes are going for about $113,100 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,116 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Am I wrong here? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely average and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Highland) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in real estate here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
