What's it really like living in Memphis?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Been living here since 2007. You can expect to pay around $1,155 for rent here. Homes are going for about $292,200 on average. The suburbs are where most families end up. Would love some local perspective. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I've lived in Uptown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- The food scene scene is solid

The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Portland about 5 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
