Is Memphis still affordable?

Longtime lurker here, The unemployment rate is 5.3%, which is about average. Household incomes average around $51,211 in Memphis. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Let me know your thoughts. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Bought a house here in 2015 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone about the same since then.
