Night shift worker - Memphis at 3am is pretty good. Downtown has improved dramatically since I first moved here..

Gonna share a detailed perspective since most replies are pretty surface-level.
I'm a single mom in Collierville. Been here since 2021. I keep discovering new spots even after {yr} years..
Neighborhood-wise, Collierville has really transformed in the past few years. Overton Square is the up-and-coming spot right now. Downtown is where I'd look if budget is a concern.
Job market for nonprofit: improving. For legal: established.
I feel like {city} is becoming more expensive without getting better.

Great question. Here's my honest take after 7 years:
The good:
- Growing job market
- Active community events
- Pet-friendly city
The not-so-good:
- Chain restaurants everywhere
- Tourist crowds
Traffic has gotten noticeably worse in the past year.. I'd say for singles, Memphis is decent. Hope that helps!

I walk my dog through Crosstown every day and Grocery prices are creeping up but still manageable.. The vibe has really shifted in the past couple years.

I'll give you a thorough answer since I've been through this exact situation.
I moved to Mud Island from Seattle about 2 years ago. Initially I was overwhelmed. But after settling in, The food scene in {hood} is honestly incredible..
A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out Mud Island and Bartlett for housing
- Don't judge the whole city by downtown
- Talk to your neighbors - people are friendlier than you'd expect
The biggest adjustment was traffic. The {industry} scene here is really picking up.. Overall I'd give Memphis a 7/10 for retirees.
