Random thought, We're a young couple and Median household income is $62,778, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 9.8%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $108,500 on average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to.
Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Good schools
- Close to nature
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- High property taxes
- Homelessness issues downtown
- Not enough green space
Anyone in a similar situation? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I'm a sales manager and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is decent in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Maple Ridge for 14 years. Moved from Houston for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
legal is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Can feel isolated. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in The Heights for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The cultural scene scene is improving
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The weather scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 11 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
