Hey folks, Military spouse here. You can expect to pay around $933 for rent here. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Atlanta about 10 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Mediterranean places. it's not perfect but it works for me.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely excellent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Riverside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
