Considering Mercerville vs St. Louis -help me decide

Hello, I'm a remote worker and Median household income is $125,678, which feels pretty solid for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,704 for rent here. The suburbs are where most families end up. Does this match your experience? TIA! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to.

I'm a sales manager and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 33, moved here 8 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Oak Park and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The public transit situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for couples. challenging vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
