Meriden housing prices -when will it stop?

Hey, I relocated for work and Household incomes average around $68,617 in Meriden. Homes are going for about $221,600 on average. Rent is about $1,243/month for a decent place. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Nice parks and trails
- Diverse community
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Rising rent prices
- Mosquitoes and humidity
What do you all think? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Bought a house here in 2021 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 56, moved here 6 years ago from Portland. I've lived in The Heights and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The cultural scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for singles. average vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
