OK so I'm retired and Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Would love some local perspective. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in education. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 3 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is improving.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from New York about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Baltimore about 5 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.
