Remote worker thinking about Meriden

Random thought, Crime rate is something to consider -Meriden sits at 264.4 per 100K. The median home value here is around $221,600, which is actually reasonable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Any advice would be great. Any help is appreciated.

Came here for work and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The cost of living scene is average

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely challenging and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 15 years. Moved from Miami for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is average - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Far from beaches/mountains. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've lived in Highland for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- The healthcare scene is solid

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.
