With a population of 125K, Meridian is a mid-size city. Household incomes average around $98,686 in Meridian. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Anyone in a similar situation? The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Midtown area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 44, moved here 13 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The community vibe situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in engineering. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.
