Why I chose Meridianville over bigger cities

OK so Born and raised here. Crime rate is something to consider -Meridianville sits at 781.9 per 100K. Median household income is $93,030, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $983/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $271,800, which seems about average. Homes are going for about $271,800 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Diverse community
- Low taxes
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
Am I overthinking this? The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 44, moved here 15 years ago from New York. I've lived in Highland and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good internet infrastructure
2. Close to major attractions
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The weather situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
