Rent in Merrick getting crazy

Longtime lurker here, Homes are going for about $715,700 on average. Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Merrick sits at 119.0 per 100K. With a population of 21,816, Merrick is a small town. Median household income is $179,415, which feels pretty solid for the area. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for family and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The weather is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Riverside for 9 years. Moved from Denver for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is improving - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Dating scene is rough. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, Hope this helps!.
