What surprised you most about Merrifield?
I grew up here but left for a while. It's a a small town city with about 20,549 people. You can expect to pay around $2,308 for rent here. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.
Pros:
- Close to nature
- Diverse community
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Limited nightlife
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Homelessness issues downtown
Anyone in a similar situation? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.
