Honest thoughts on life in Merritt Island

Hey, Military spouse here. The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 5.9%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 73--F, so it's warm year-round. Crime rate is something to consider -Merritt Island sits at 846.0 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I'm a HR manager and I've found I love the pace of life here. The community is average and there's always something going on.

Came here for retirement and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The dating scene is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
