Poverty rate is 5.9%, which is pretty low. It's a a smaller city city with about 34,718 people. You can expect to pay around $1,348 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $379,700 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.
Pros:
- Close to nature
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Rising rent prices
- High property taxes
- Few job opportunities in some fields
Has anyone dealt with this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Austin about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a chef who relocated here from Nashville about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Pittsburgh it's improving.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The dating scene is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
