Why I chose Merritt Island over bigger cities

Household incomes average around $91,020 in Merritt Island. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Would love some local perspective.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 9 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely excellent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (West) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 11 years. Moved from Seattle for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Homeless population growing downtown. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in tech. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the Sunset side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 8 years. Moved from Dallas for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Not very walkable outside downtown. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Fairview) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The healthcare is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..
