Should I move to Merritt Park or stay in Raleigh?

I'm a 22-year-old firefighter and It's a a small town city with about 1,723 people. The unemployment rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $3,501/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $458,500, which is pretty steep. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. TIA! People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much pricey but now it's underrated.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely solid and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (North) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Fairview) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
