Curious what people think. I'm retired and Rent is about $1,478/month for a decent place. It's a a major city city with about 507K people. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 15 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from LA about 13 years ago. The main reasons were school and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is improving.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..
