Anyone regret moving to Metairie?

Rent is about $1,159/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 72°F, so it's warm year-round. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Would love some local perspective.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from San Diego about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (North) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely improving and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Eastside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 8 years. Moved from San Francisco for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is improving - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited shopping options. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Denver about 6 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely tough and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Westside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 53, moved here 9 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Cedar Grove and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Close to major attractions
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The safety situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for young professionals. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
