Anyone else feel this way? I'm a nurse at the local hospital and You can expect to pay around $1,159 for rent here. Homes are going for about $308,900 on average. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Is this normal for Metairie? The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Used to live on the Uptown side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

I've lived in Sunset for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons
- The walkability scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely solid and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Old Town) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The traffic is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..
