Curious what people think. I grew up here but left for a while. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What would you do?

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is underrated in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely excellent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from New York about 3 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.
