Why I chose Metairie over bigger cities

Random thought, Homes are going for about $308,900 on average. Crime rate is something to consider — Metairie sits at 161.0 per 100K. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Should I be concerned? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Old Town) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
