So, I'm originally from Indianapolis and Rent is about $600/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $600 for rent here. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Has anyone dealt with this?

I've lived in East for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
- The food scene scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from San Diego about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely excellent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (West) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
