Raising a family in Miami Gardens -thoughts?

We're a young couple and With a population of 111K, Miami Gardens is a mid-size city. The unemployment rate is 5.1%, which is about average. Median household income is $60,979, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,709 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good job market
- Diverse community
- Active local events

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Far from major airports
- Limited cultural events
Anyone in a similar situation? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 13 years. Moved from Nashville for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Bugs and humidity in summer. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Used to live on the Cedar Grove side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is better than expected in most areas.
