Anyone else feel this way? I grew up here but left for a while. It's a a smaller city city with about 30,731 people. Household incomes average around $97,255 in Miami Lakes. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. TIA! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 8 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Uptown for 1 years. Moved from Raleigh for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from New York about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is average.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
