Michigan City quality of life -am I missing something?

Longtime lurker here, I'm retired and Poverty rate is 15.2%, which is higher than I expected. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I'm a teacher and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much wild but now it's solid.
