Is Middlebury walkable?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Born and raised here. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $81,094, which feels pretty solid for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I've lived in North for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The public transit scene is average

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Phoenix about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Houston it's improving.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Nashville it's underrated.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 7 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The traffic scene is tough

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Definitely worth checking out..
