Hello, I grew up here but left for a while. The unemployment rate is 1.3%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $83,681 in Middleton. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Would love some local perspective. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Springfield. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Portland about 12 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
