Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm retired and You can expect to pay around $1,077 for rent here. The weather takes some getting used to. Has anyone dealt with this? TIA! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- The cultural scene scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely decent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from San Francisco about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
