Best and worst neighborhoods in Middletown

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I've been here for 10 years and It's a a smaller city city with about 47,646 people. Poverty rate is 7.8%, which is pretty low. With a population of 47,646, Middletown is a smaller city. Rent is about $1,392/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Plenty of shopping options
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much growing but now it's average.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely improving and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 53, moved here 10 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Midtown and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The dating scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Seattle it's underrated.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community vibe is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
- The job market scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..
