Is Middletown worth moving to in 2026?

Longtime lurker here, We have two kids and Crime rate is something to consider -Middletown sits at 208.0 per 100K. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 48, moved here 9 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in South and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Limited shopping options
3. The school system situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for remote workers. tough vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Houston about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..
