Middletown vs Austin -which is better?

Hi all, Homes are going for about $399,500 on average. Median household income is $115,252, which feels pretty solid for the area. With a population of 24,071, Middletown is a small town. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit
- Not very walkable
- Poor road conditions
Any advice would be great. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is average in most areas.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 15 years. Moved from Portland for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is improving - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Rising rent and home prices. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 9/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for work and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community vibe is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
