Middletown quality of life -am I missing something?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I've been here for 5 years and Rent is about $1,614/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,614 for rent here. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $77,174, which feels about average for the area. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Is this normal for Middletown?

Bought a house here in 2022 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much pricey but now it's solid.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 33, moved here 10 years ago from Miami. I've lived in West and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The public transit situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
