First post here. I'm retired and Median household income is $54,985, which feels on the lower side for the area. Rent is about $974/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Middletown sits at 421.5 per 100K. The median home value here is around $148,300, which is actually reasonable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Thoughts? Thanks in advance! It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 10 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..
