Life in Midland as a young professional

So, Average temperature is around 48--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $74,906 in Midland. It's a a smaller city city with about 42,461 people. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I overthinking this? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2017 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in South for 10 years. Moved from Chicago for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Dating scene is rough. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
